One of the things most golfers want to know is, how do I fix my golf swing. As you keep reading, I describe some of the different ways you can go about it. After going through them, it's going to be up to you to decide which approach is the best for you.
Swing Fix 1 - Buying New Equipment
One of the things everyone has tried at one time or another is to buy new clubs in the hopes that their game will change. Now, I don't want to totally discount this fix because buying new clubs can improve your game if you're playing the wrong clubs, or if your clubs are not properly fitted to you and your swing. The best thing you can do, is to seek out a professional clubfitter to have your swing checked and club professionally fitted to you.
There's another little know way that buying new clubs can fix your swing. Newer clubs feel different from your old clubs. Because they feel different, hitting shots with them causes you to take your mind off of your swing. This new feeling totally clears your mind but it doesn't last long. A couple of weeks after using your new clubs, they don't feel all that different so you start thinking about your swing again. The best thing to do would be to stop experimenting with new clubs. As I mentioned earlier, try to find a professional clubfitter and get properly fitted. Then, stay focused on working on your swing.
Swing Fix 2 - All Those Swing Tips
We've all grabbed the latest golf magazine and tried the latest tip with the hope it will magically change our game. Unfortunately, most golfers don't have the experience to determine whether or not these tips will even work for them. If you don't know your swing well enough, and you keep trying these tips, you may make your swing worse. Plus, a tip is a tip. It's not certain that it's going to help you develop the proper fundamentals.
An example of a tip would be to move your hands into a stronger grip position. Even though a tip like this may help you square the clubface better through impact, you're still not doing the correct grip. You should be very careful the next time you go to work on the latest tip you find in a magazine, or from your buddy. What you should do, is go over the tip with your head professional or teacher to determine whether or not this tip would be something you should pursue. Only then should you try it. It it works, that's fantastic!
Swing Fix 3 - Lack of Focus
The great majority of golfers are trying to find the miracle cure so they try to make way too many changes at the same time. This approach will never work. Unfortunately, this will be too confusing. Plus, you may end up trying so many different things that you forget what actually worked. Even if you had some success, it may have just been luck. The only way you truly know if this way of working on your swing is a success is if you see long term results.
Swing Fix 4 - Change One Thing at a Time
The best way to work on swing changes is to work on one thing at a time. In doing so, you stay focused only on that thing which means you aren't going to experiment and try 5 different things at once. In order to work on your swing this way, you need to follow a method or work with a swing coach. By focusing on your swing like this, you'll re enforce the changes because you won't be getting sidetracked. Now, I know a lot of people are think this will take too long. When compared to the other fixes I mentioned, this really will be the fastest.
That's because the other tips only give you a temporary fix whereas, working on each piece of your swing, develops proper fundamentals that you can take with you long into the future.
